Trump said, ‘We have many countries who are going to make deals with us. These are going to be fair deals. In some cases they are going to pay substantial tariffs. They will be fair deals.’

Trump threatens China again

Trump also stressed on the current tariff situation with China. Trump has criticized China’s statement and tariff hike. Trump said, ‘If that tariff is not removed by 12 o’clock tomorrow, we will impose tariffs 50 percent more than what we have imposed. They have become a rich country because of the people who live in the White House.’

Citing US debt

Earlier, Beijing had imposed a 34 percent retaliatory tariff hike on the US. Trump reiterated that his approach was aimed at correcting the trade imbalance, citing the huge debt on the US.

I have a lot of respect for China – Trump

Trump said, ‘I have a very good relationship with President Xi. I hope it remains like this. I have a lot of respect for China, but they can’t do it. We will try this just once. No other president is going to do it. Let me tell you, it is an honor to do it because we have just been ruined. What they have done to our system, you know, we have a debt of 36 trillion dollars. So we will talk to China. We will talk to many different countries.’

America wants a fair deal from all countries – Trump

On the issue of some tariffs being permanent and others being negotiable, Trump said, “Both of those can be true. There can be permanent tariffs and there can be negotiations.” He further said that the US will ensure fair deals with all countries, and if the negotiations are not done on satisfactory terms, then the US will distance itself from those countries. He said, “We are going to make fair and good deals with every country and if we don’t do that then we will have nothing to do with them.”
