Amit Shah In Rajya Sabha On Manipur: Parliament passed a constitutional resolution confirming President’s rule in Manipur in the wee hours of Friday. President’s rule was imposed in violence-hit Manipur on February 13. In line with a Supreme Court decision, a constitutional resolution to confirm President’s rule within two months was introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha for discussion and passage.

The Upper House passed the resolution by voice vote at around 4 am on Friday. The Lok Sabha has already passed it. He said in the House that the Chief Minister of Manipur had resigned, after which the Governor discussed with the MLAs and the majority members said that they were not in a position to form the government. Shah said that after this the Cabinet recommended President’s rule which was accepted by the President.

I accept that 260 people died – Amit Shah

Amit Shah said, “In accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court, I have brought a constitutional resolution in this regard for the approval of the House within two months.” Shah said that the first concern of the government is to establish peace in Manipur and there has not been a single death there in the last four months and only two people have been injured. He said that he accepts that 260 people died in ethnic violence in Manipur but he wants to tell the House that more people died in election violence in West Bengal.

Amit Shah told the reason for the deteriorating atmosphere

The Home Minister said that a court decision was the main reason behind the deterioration of the situation in Manipur in which reservation was given to one caste. He said that this court decision was stayed by the Supreme Court the very next day. He said that the government wants that there should be peace in Manipur soon, rehabilitation should take place and people’s wounds should be healed. The Home Minister appealed to the opposition parties not to do politics on the issue of Manipur.

Kharge said- PM Modi could not find time to visit Manipur

Earlier, while participating in the discussion on the bill, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said that despite so much violence in Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet got a chance to visit that state. He said that when tremendous pressure was put on the ruling party, the Chief Minister was forced to resign. He said that the BJP’s ‘double engine government’ in Manipur has proved to be a complete failure. Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien said that the situation in Manipur has been bad for 22 months and the Prime Minister has not visited there even once. He alleged that the ruling party is adopting an arrogant attitude towards Manipur.
