Devotees have been attacked in the Golden Temple complex of Amritsar. An unknown person attacked five people with a rod, injuring all of them. On receiving the information, the police have arrested the accused attacker and the matter is being investigated. The accused has been identified as Zulfan, a resident of Haryana. The police have also arrested his accomplice. A police officer said that the second accused had allegedly done a recce along with the person who attacked the devotees.
According to the Punjab Police, two of the injured are temple sevadars and three devotees. Among the injured, the condition of a Sikh youth from Bathinda is said to be critical and he is undergoing treatment at Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Amritsar. The local police arrested the accused who attacked the devotees. His accomplice has also been caught. The police is interrogating them.
Attacked with an iron rod
According to media reports, members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee saw a young man roaming suspiciously in the temple complex. When he was questioned, he started quarreling with them. He was chased out of the temple premises. After a while, he returned with an iron rod in his hand and attacked the committee members. The devotees present there came to intervene. He attacked them too with the rod.
One is in critical condition
Two people from the temple committee and three devotees were injured in the youth’s attack. When the accused tried to run away, he was caught. The police have arrested him. Another of his companions has also been arrested. Why did the accused attack the devotees of the Golden Temple? The reason for this is not yet known. The police is interrogating the accused and his companion. Out of the five injured, four were discharged from the hospital after first aid. Only one is said to be in critical condition.
