Amritsar: The process of deporting Indians from America is continuing. US military planes are continuously arriving at Amritsar International Airport. In the same sequence, today on Sunday also, a US military plane carrying 112 illegal immigrants has reached Amritsar Airport. Out of the 112 people who arrived from America today, 31 are from Punjab, 44 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, two from Uttar Pradesh and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Earlier on Saturday night also, a US military plane carrying 116 Indians landed at Amritsar International Airport at around 12 o’clock on Saturday night. 67 youths from Punjab had arrived in this plane, some of whom India TV spoke to.
The NRIs say that they were treated very badly in the detention center in America and even during deportation to India, their hands and feet were tied with shackles. They were tied with chains around their stomach and waist. Even while going to the bathroom, they were taken by holding them by the collar. They were given only chips and a drink like juice to eat throughout the way. These youths said that they had hoped that after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to America they would be treated better or they would get some relief but this did not happen.
They took us to the washroom by holding our collars
23-year-old Jitendra Singh, a resident of Bandala village of Amritsar, Punjab, said that we were treated very badly. We were brought to India from America tied in shackles. We were kept in shackles on the way too, we were abused even for going to the washroom. We were taken by holding our collars. We were given water and packets of chips to eat. I had gone from Mumbai on 17 September and crossed the US border on 27 November. We were shackled at night on 13 February and the shackles were opened before the flight was about to land here. When we went by the Donkey route, it was a very dangerous journey. We went by the Panama route. We were told that we would be sent by air but this did not happen.
Jitendra Singh told that when he was being deported from America, he was not told that he was being brought to India. During this, the entire journey was very painful. He had to go to the bathroom in the plane while being tied in shackles. Also, when he was kept in the detention center of America for 15 days, he was treated very badly there too. The cleaners used to come at 12 in the night and wake everyone up and tell them that cleaning has to be done and they were thrown out of the rooms due to which they could not sleep properly. There, nothing was given to eat except chips, water and juice. Jitendra Singh went to America by taking a loan of Rs 40 lakh and the agent had assured him that he would be sent to America in a proper manner but later he was sent to America through the donkey route.
Harpreet became a victim of agents’ loot
At the same time, the story of 21-year-old Harpreet Singh, a resident of Ghanshyampur village of Amritsar, is also very sad. Harpreet Singh’s father Diler Singh has been bed-ridden for the last 20 years and is forced to live a handicapped life due to his legs being damaged due to illness. The family thought that if Harpreet Singh reaches America, he will be able to fulfill the dreams of the family and the financial condition of the family will also improve. Harpreet Singh was also deceived by the agents and he was first sent to Italy on the pretext that he would be sent to America after completing the paperwork properly from there, but later he was made to cross the US border from Mexico through the jungles of Guatemala. According to Harpreet Singh’s ailing father Diler Singh and his mother Nirmal Kaur, when their son reached Italy, the agents started blackmailing them and demanded 15 to 20 lakh rupees more from them. They were told that if they do not pay the money, their son will neither be able to return nor go further.
Harpreet’s father Diler Singh and mother Nirmal Kaur told that they collected money by borrowing money from their relatives and by selling the jewelry of Harpreet’s wife and his mother and then gave it to the agents. Harpreet’s parents told that the agent to whom they paid money did not even let them take their picture and deceived them that their son was being sent to America in the right way. After reaching Italy and Guatemala, their son got badly stuck on the way, who had no option other than going ahead through the Donkey route. Harpreet told that when he was deported from America, he was not informed that he was being sent back to India and only after boarding the plane, he came to know that he was returning to India.
According to Harpreet, the journey of about 24 hours in the plane was very painful. He could not even sit properly on the seat and he was kept tied with shackles even while going to the bathroom. When he stayed in the detention center in America for 15 days, he was treated very badly there too. He was woken up from sleep many times at night, sometimes for cleaning and sometimes for some other work, he was disturbed every hour at night. Harpreet told that in the detention center he was given only chips, juice and apples to eat. Apart from this he was not given anything. Apart from this, in the harsh cold of January he was kept in the cold by running AC in the detention center and he was given only a lower and T-shirt to wear.
Harpreet told that when he was being deported, a young man from Pakistan told him that he was being sent back to his country. Harpreet said that now he will never even think of going abroad. But the government should provide employment here for young men like him. Harpreet told that neither his statement was taken in the detention center nor was he directly deported back to India. According to Harpreet, as soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached America, preparations for deporting him were started. Harpreet claimed that even women and children were tied with shackles in the plane and Sikh young men were also treated very badly and their turbans were disrespected and they were removed in the name of checking.
Saurav from Firozpur narrated his ordeal
In the same sequence, among the 116 Indians deported by America and sent back to India, a young man named Saurav, a resident of Chandi Wala village of Firozpur, is also included. Saurav left for America from India on 4 January. After travelling through different countries for 23 days, he reached America via Mexico through the donkey route and was arrested by the American police. He was then kept in a detention centre. Saurav said that when he was deported from America to India, his hands and legs were tied and he faced a lot of problems because of this on the way. Saurav said that his father had taken a loan, sold 2 acres of land and invested Rs 45 lakh to send him to America. But the agents lied and got him admitted into America through the donkey route, due to which his dreams are now shattered.
