Jakarta: According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck Indonesia’s West Aceh province on Tuesday morning. Initially, the agency reported the magnitude of the earthquake as 6.2, but it was later downgraded. However, no damage has been reported so far from this earthquake. According to the agency, the earthquake was felt at 2:48 am Jakarta time on Tuesday (1948 GMT on Monday), with the epicenter located 30 km below sea level, 62 km southeast of Sinabung city in Simeulue Regency.

No tsunami warning
No tsunami warning was issued, as the earthquake was unlikely to raise large waves in the sea. “There are no reports of serious damage or casualties in the quake-hit areas, especially in Simeulue regency, which was the worst hit,” Zopan A, a senior official with the provincial disaster management and mitigation agency, told Xinhua.
