After the division of Andhra Pradesh, assembly elections were held here for the third time in 2024. Along with the Lok Sabha, the counting of assembly seats is also going on. There has been a change of power in this southern state. According to the results so far in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, the Telugu Desam Party is getting more seats than the majority. However, it has contested the elections in the state along with the Bharatiya Janata Party and Jana Sena Party. At the same time, the position of YSR Congress is very weak.
In the last assembly elections, Y. S. Jagan Reddy’s YSR Congress had registered a big victory. It had defeated the then ruling party TDP in both the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. This time YSR Congress is getting a big defeat in the assembly as well as the Lok Sabha elections.
TDP made a tremendous lead
Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party is getting 134 seats, while its ally Jana Sena Party is getting 21 and Bharatiya Janata Party is getting 8 seats. In contrast, YSR Congress is getting reduced to just 12 seats. Along with the assembly elections, TDP has done wonders in the Lok Sabha elections as well. TDP is seen getting 16 seats out of 25. At the same time, YSRCP is getting 4, BJP 3 and Janasena Party 2 seats.
In the 2014 assembly elections, TDP formed the government by winning 102 seats in the assembly. While YSR Congress got 67 seats. Apart from this, BJP was successful in winning 4 seats then. After this, in the 2019 elections, YSR Congress won 151 seats, while TDP got only 23 seats.
