Former IPS AB Venkateshwar Rao was suspended in the year 2020 on charges of leaking intelligence information. The then Jaganmohan Reddy government had decided to suspend him. However, in this case, former IPS Venkateshwar had got relief from the High Court. After this, now the current Chandrababu Naidu government has also given him a big relief. The government has decided to withdraw all the action going on against the former IPS.
AB Venkateshwar Rao was on the target of the then government in the year 2020. During that time CM Jaganmohan Reddy had suspended him. Along with this, the government had removed him from the post of Intelligence Chief. One of the reasons for the IPS being on the government’s target is also said to be that he was close to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. With the change of government, Reddy had targeted many officers during Naidu’s tenure.
It was said about AB Venkateshwar that he is one of the very special officers of Naidu. This is also because when Naidu became the Chief Minister again in the year 2024, at that time he met only a few selected IPS officers. Venkateshwar was also included in these. While many senior officers had to return without meeting him.
Government took back all action
Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu government has withdrawn all action against retired IPS officer AB Venkateshwar Rao. The High Court had already dismissed the FIR and chargesheet filed against him. This case was filed by the previous YSRCP government. After review, the new TDP government has decided that it is not appropriate to file a petition in the Supreme Court. This has given a big relief to Rao.
Under which sections was the case registered against the former IPS
Venkateshwar Rao was accused of giving many important information related to intelligence protocol and police to a foreign defense manufacturing firm. Which is going to harm national security. For this, a case was registered against him under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 511 (committing an offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
A chargesheet was filed against him in a local court in Vijayawada on May 18, 2024. However, the High Court has quashed both the FIR and the chargesheet, a government order (GO) issued on Tuesday said.
