Asaduddin Owaisi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday lashed out at the Maharashtra government’s decision to set up a committee to consider the legal aspects of the new law against ‘love jihad’.
Owaisi said in a post on ‘X’ that it seems that the Maharashtra government has no other work except investigating inter-religious marriages. He said that even the Modi government has said that there is no definition of love jihad and many investigative agencies have rejected the theory of it being a conspiracy.
‘Marrying by hiding religion is already a crime’
Hyderabad MP Owaisi said, ‘The Indian Penal Code (BNS) already considers any person a criminal for promising marriage by hiding his religious identity. Forced conversion is also in the category of crime.’
He said, ‘This is only an attempt to form an ‘uncle government’. The government interferes in who you marry, what you eat, what language you speak, where you live and what religion you follow.’

Owaisi also asked what about the right to privacy? He said that people should choose their religion and their partner as per their wish, this is a fundamental right. Let us tell you that many leaders of opposition parties in Maharashtra have criticized this decision of the Fadnavis government.
