Asaram Bapu Bail: Asaram Bapu, who is serving rigorous imprisonment till his last breath in the sexual abuse case, has got a big relief from the Rajasthan High Court. The High Court has granted him interim bail till March 31 in the Jodhpur rape case.
Asaram has been sentenced to life imprisonment in two rape cases. One case is of rape of a female follower in his Surat Ashram. The second is of rape in Jodhpur Ashram. On January 7, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the Surat rape case and asked him to go to the High Court in the Jodhpur rape case. Now he has got bail from the High Court as well.
Supreme Court conditions
The Supreme Court granted bail to Asaram on health grounds. The court made it clear that this relief is being given on the basis of old age and poor health. The bench headed by Supreme Court Justice MM Sundaresh also imposed conditions while granting bail to Asaram. The Supreme Court said that Asaram will not meet his followers during his release. He will not tamper with evidence. 3 policemen will be with him during treatment.
Asaram was arrested in Indore in 2013. He is 86 years old. Asaram has got bail for the first time after 12 years 8 months and 21 days.
However, he got parole during this time. He was admitted to Madhavbagh Ayurveda Hospital in Khopoli area of Pune for treatment. He was brought to Jodhpur jail after treatment on January 1. Now Asaram will come out of jail again.
When was Asaram sentenced?
On April 25, 2018, a special POCSO court in Jodhpur convicted Asaram for raping a minor. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
After this, in January 2023, a Gujarat court convicted the self-proclaimed baba in a rape case involving a female disciple and sentenced him to life imprisonment in that case as well.
