Guwahati: Clashes broke out on Monday between students of the prestigious institute and members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) after anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) posters were torn down on the campus of Guwahati University (GU) located in Jalukbari area of the city. Members of GU’s newly elected student body, the Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU), claimed that ABVP members tore anti-CAA posters at the university gate, which triggered the confrontation and turned into a fight. ABVP refuted PGSU’s claim and alleged that while they were holding a meeting in a hall on the university campus, some students who arrived there raised anti-CAA slogans and were also stopped from entering the campus. Police said that the injured students were treated at a nearby hospital. He said, “As soon as the information was received, our top officials reached the spot and now the situation is under control.”
