Atomic Energy Commission: The central government has reconstituted the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), in which TV Somanathan and Manoj Govil have been included. Both have held the post of Cabinet Secretary and Expenditure Secretary.
According to a notification issued on October 21 last year and published in the Gazette on January 9, the AEC also includes Pankaj Kumar Mishra, who took over as Member (Finance) last year.
Know who got the place
The reconstituted AEC has Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, as its chairman. The commission has National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Pramod Kumar Mishra, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Somanathan and Govil as ex-officio members.
Other members include former AEC chairmen M R Srinivasan and Anil Kakodkar, former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology P Rama Rao, former Principal Advisor (DAE) Ravi B Grover and former Chairman of Space Commission K Kasturirangan. Bhabha Atomic Research Center Director Vivek Bhasin is also an ex-officio member of the commission. AEC works to prepare policies for the Department of Atomic Energy.
America will remove nuclear sanctions imposed on India
It is worth noting that America has started the process of removing old sanctions imposed on Indian nuclear institutions. This will further strengthen the energy relations between America and India. Apart from this, the 20-year-old historic nuclear agreement will get new momentum. This was announced by US National Security Advisor Jack Sullivan during his visit to New Delhi.
During this, he said, “America is removing those rules which were hindering civil nuclear cooperation between India and American companies. He said that its formalities will be completed soon. This will open new opportunities in the nuclear energy sector between the two countries.
