Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong is this country’s first lesbian woman MP. On Sunday, Wong announced that he had married his partner Sophie Allouche. In fact, the Australian Foreign Minister shared a picture of herself and her partner Allouche in a wedding dress and carrying a bouquet of flowers on the social media platform Instagram. In which he wrote, “We are happy that our family and friends can share this special day with us.”
This happiness increases because they had struggled a lot to legalize gay marriage. After which gay marriage became legal in Australia in 2017. Let us tell you, till 1997, homosexuality was not decriminalized in all the states. According to the report of The Sydney Morning Herald, Wong and Allouche have been together for almost two decades. Both of them got married in Adelaide on Saturday. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and many Australian government ministers were also present in this marriage.
Daughters also attended the wedding
During this ceremony, the couple’s daughters Alexandra, aged 11 years, and Hannah, aged 8 years, were also present in the programme. Let us tell you that Wong and his partner had these daughters through IVF. Wong played a key role in legalizing gay marriage in Australia in 2017. However, it is surprising that Penny Wong was at one time against gay marriage as per the policy of the Labor Party.
