Bangladesh Flood:-After the political crisis, Bangladesh is now facing the brunt of a natural disaster. Many areas of the country are in a bad condition due to floods. The interim government of Bangladesh has so far failed to deal with the worsening situation due to the floods. Bangladesh has blamed India for the floods. The neighbouring country alleges that the floods in the country have occurred due to the opening of the Farakka Barrage. Now the Indian government has also responded to these allegations of Bangladesh.
India rejected reports from Bangladesh that attributed the floods to the opening of the Farakka Barrage in West Bengal. “We have seen fake videos, rumours and fear-mongering being used to create misconceptions,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a press conference.
Jaiswal said it is important to respond to these rumours and added that Bangladesh was informed in advance about the rising waters and this has been done regularly in the past as well.
“Farakka is just a barrage, not a dam”
Jaiswal, while answering media questions on the issue of floods in the neighboring country, said, it should be understood that Farakka is just a barrage, not a dam. Whenever the water level reaches the pond level, whatever excess water comes in is drained out, it can only divert 40 thousand cusecs of water into the Farakka canal, this is done carefully using the gates of the Ganga / Padma river, after which whatever water remains flows into the main river and goes to Bangladesh.
Apart from this, the Ministry of External Affairs had clarified that floods in shared rivers are a common problem of both the countries and it needs to be solved with mutual cooperation.
Allegations were made against India
After the floods in Bangladesh, many claims are being made on social media sites. It was said that India is responsible for the floods in Bangladesh. Alleged pictures and videos were also shared from many verified accounts of Bangladesh.
