In Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina’s supporters have opened a front against interim government chief Mohammad Yunus. In Gopalganj, Bangladesh, clashes have taken place between Yunus-supported NCP and student organizations of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League… During these protests and clashes, 4 people have died while 9 people are injured. In Gopalganj, the Yunus government has brought tanks on the streets. Currently, curfew has been imposed in the area. Paramilitary personnel are deployed at various places. Mohammad Yunus has condemned the Awami League for this violent clash and said that the perpetrators of violence will be brought to justice. On the other hand, Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League has accused the Yunus government of attacking its workers.
What is the whole matter?
In Gopalganj, Bangladesh, clashes have taken place between students of Sheikh Hasina’s supporters National Citizens Party. Information has come to light that supporters of Sheikh Hasina’s party attacked the rally of the National Citizens Party. The attack is blamed on the student unit of Awami League – Bangladesh Chhatra League. Awami League workers attacked. After that clashes started. Sheikh Hasina’s supporters started protesting against the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. The police fired in response, in which so far 4 people have been reported dead.
The dead have been identified
Three of the people killed in the violence in Gopalganj, Bangladesh have been identified as Dipto Saha (25 years), Ramzan Kazi (18 years) and Sohail Molla (41 years). The doctor of Gopalganj Civil Hospital has confirmed that all the 9 people who are injured have been shot. Currently, curfew has been imposed in Gopalganj… 200 soldiers of Border Guard Bangladesh have been deployed in Gopalganj, Bangladesh… The police is arresting the protesters who committed violence.

The faction that was involved in removing Sheikh Hasina has now formed a political party named NCP. Nahid Islam, who was an advisor in the Yunus government, formed the NCP on 28 February 2025. The NCP has the support of Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh. The NCP is running a campaign of demonstrations across Bangladesh. The ancestral home of Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is in Gopalganj. There is also a memorial of Banga Bandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Gopalganj. NCP students raised slogans against Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the rally. After the sloganeering, a clash started with Hasina’s supporters. The ruckus increased in no time. The police first fired on the protesters. Even then, when the situation did not improve, tanks were brought in. Sheikh Hasina’s supporters started being arrested. Let us tell you that the demand of NCP is that Sheikh Hasina’s party should not be given any place in Bangladesh.
What did Mohammad Yunus say?
Interim government chief Mohammad Yunus has written on a social media post about this clash. He said- “Preventing the youth from holding a peaceful rally to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their revolutionary movement is a shameful violation of their fundamental rights. The perpetrators should be identified as soon as possible and held fully accountable. There is no place for such violence against any citizen of Bangladesh. We appreciate the courage of the students who continued their rally despite these malicious threats.” However, no video of the NCP rally in which Mohammad Yunus’s government is claiming an attack has surfaced yet… Questions are also being raised in the Bangladesh media whether this entire violence has been done by targeting Hasina supporters?
