Dhaka: Today is a very important day for Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal will hold a formal hearing on the charges against Sheikh Hasina today i.e. on Sunday, in which she can be sentenced to death. Bangladesh’s government BTB has been allowed to broadcast this entire hearing live. In this way, this will be the first time in the history of Bangladesh when the whole country will be able to watch the hearing live.
Hasina can be sentenced to death
Let us tell you that Sheikh Hasina was ousted on August 5 last year after a massive movement of students in Bangladesh, after which she left the country and came to India. Many cases have been filed against Sheikh Hasina in various courts of Bangladesh, on which hearings were held. But photography or broadcasting of her hearing was not allowed. With the decision of ICT-BD to allow live broadcast, this tradition can be broken in Hasina’s case and she can be sentenced to death today.
Hearing will be held in the tribunal, charges will be presented
Bangladesh’s state media reported, ‘The prosecution will present formal charges against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the ICT-BD on Sunday in a case related to crimes against humanity committed during the July-August, 2024 public uprising.’ ICT-BD Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said that charges against former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Police Chief Abdullah Al Mamun, both of whom are currently in jail, will also be heard simultaneously.
In fact, on May 22, local BNP leader Tarikul Islam was killed in a dispute in Dahramashiyahati village of Jessore district. After the murder, the houses of the Hindu community living there were targeted. The victims say that they were tortured without reason.
