The Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) temple in Chino Hills, California, USA, has been vandalized by unknown people. Which has highlighted the increasing violence against Hindus and raised many questions on the US police failing to protect temples.
Regarding the vandalism in BAPS, ‘BAPS Public Affairs’ said on the social media platform X, “Another temple has been desecrated. This time the incident has happened in Chino Hills in California. The Hindu community stands firmly against hatred. The community in Chino Hills and Southern California is together and we will never allow hatred to take root.” The post also said that our shared humanity and faith will ensure that peace and compassion prevail.
Response of the Government of India
The Government of India has also openly opposed this attack on the temple. The Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday strongly condemned this ‘hateful act’. In an official statement, the ministry has called upon the local law enforcement authorities to take strict action against those responsible for these acts and ensure adequate security of places of worship.
Demanded investigation
The Coalition of Hindus of North America, an organization working for Hinduism in North America, has drawn attention to similar incidents that have happened before and has demanded a thorough investigation.
The organization said on ‘X’, “Another Hindu temple was vandalized, this time the prestigious BAPS temple in Chino Hills, California. Will the media and academia still say that there is no hatred towards Hindus and that ‘Hinduphobia’ is just a figment of our imagination.”
In the post, the organization wrote, “It is no surprise that this happened when the day of the so-called ‘Khalistan Referendum’ in Los Angeles is drawing near.” The organization made public the names of 10 temples and claimed that incidents of vandalism or desecration of them have taken place in the last few years.
Temples have been attacked before as well
This is not the first incident. In September, BAPS Hindu temple in Sacramento, California was desecrated and slogans were written on the wall saying ‘Hindus go back!’. The investigation has not yet revealed who is the accused.
About 10 days before the Sacramento incident, another BAPS Shri Swaminarayan temple in Melville, New York was desecrated and hate messages were written. The Indian Consulate General in New York strongly condemned this incident.
