Beirut: Suspected terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group have killed about two dozen government-backed fighters in a horrific attack in central Syria. 22 pro-government fighters have been confirmed killed in the attack by IS members. A war monitoring organization and pro-government media gave this information on Friday. Gunmen reportedly attacked a bus carrying members of the government-backed Quds Brigade near the city of Sukhna late Thursday night. This suddenly created a stir.
Sukhna city near which the terrorists attacked was once an IS stronghold. The Quds Brigade consists mostly of Palestinian fighters, who are supported by the government and Russia. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the Britain-based war monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and pro-government radio station Sham FM both said IS was behind the attacks.
22 fighters of Quds Brigade were killed
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the radio station said that 22 fighters were killed in the attack. The radio channel said all those killed were gunmen from the Quds Brigade, but the Observatory said most of the dead were members of the group. The Quds Brigade fought on the side of Syrian government forces during the country’s 13-year conflict. Due to this conflict, five lakh people were killed and half the country’s population was displaced.
