Bengaluru: A special CBI court ordered the transfer of seized properties of Jayalalithaa, which includes gold and silver worth crores and land documents, to the Tamil Nadu government.

A special CBI court in Bengaluru has given an important decision regarding Jayalalithaa’s property. The CBI court on Wednesday issued an order to transfer all the confiscated property of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late J Jayalalithaa to the Tamil Nadu government.

Gold sword and a gold crown too

A day after the order of the Bengaluru court, the confiscated property was officially transferred to the state government on Friday. A sword made of gold and a gold crown are among the luxurious items handed over to Tamil Nadu by Karnataka officials. The items included in the list also include a golden belt with a peacock figure on the body.

Documents related to 1,526 acres of land also included

Till now, Karnataka officials had a huge treasure of Jayalalithaa’s confiscated property in their hands. This included 27 kg 558 grams of gold jewellery, 1,116 kg of silver and documents related to 1,526 acres of land. All this treasure was kept safe in the treasury of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and was handed over in the presence of court and government officials.

Jayalalithaa convicted in disproportionate assets case

Let us tell you that on January 13, the Karnataka High Court rejected a petition by Jayalalithaa’s nephew J Deepak and niece J Deepa, in which they claimed the property as Jayalalithaa’s legal heirs. Jayalalithaa was convicted in a disproportionate assets case.

Property should not be confiscated after death

The High Court had upheld the decision to confiscate Jayalalithaa’s property in 2016 despite the proceedings against her being over after her death. Her heirs had argued that Jayalalithaa’s property should not be confiscated after the case against her was over. However, the High Court ruled that the apex court has upheld the special court’s decision to convict the other accused, so confiscation of property is legal.
