Bibek Debroy Dealth:-Economist and chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council Bibek Debroy has passed away. He was 69 years old. According to information, Bibek Debroy died this morning. He was admitted to AIIMS.
Debroy (69) was educated at Ramakrishna Mission School (Narendrapur), Presidency College (Kolkata), Delhi School of Economics and Trinity College (Cambridge). He worked at Presidency College (Kolkata), Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (Pune) and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (Delhi). He also served as the director of the Finance Ministry’s UNDP project on legal reforms. He was also a member of the Niti Aayog till June 5, 2019. He wrote or edited several books, research papers and popular articles. He has also been an advisor or contributing editor to several newspapers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Debroy’s demise and called him a great scholar. He said in a post on X, “Dr. Bibek Debroy was a great scholar, well versed in economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and other diverse fields. Through his work, he left an indelible mark on India’s intellectual landscape. Apart from his contributions to public policy, he loved working on our ancient texts and making them accessible to the youth.’ He also shared a photo of himself with Debroy.
