A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary of the Bihar Government, Pratyay Amrit, to ensure the successful and peaceful celebration of Durga Puja. The meeting directed special vigilance at all major tourist destinations and puja pandals in the state. Last year, approximately 16,000 idols were installed across the state. This year, the organizing body will be required to obtain a license before installing the idols. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police will conduct a pre-inspection of the idol installation site to prevent any potential communal tension or violence. Police, fire brigade, ambulances, and other essential services will be deployed for public convenience.
He stated that peace committee meetings will be held in every district of Bihar, involving new and young members, to spread the message of peace and brotherhood in society. In light of recent incidents in Nepal, districts bordering Nepal have been instructed to be especially vigilant. The Chief Secretary urged all administrative and police officers to work with vigilance and sensitivity to ensure a peaceful, grand, and safe Durga Puja celebration across the state.
Energy Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh directed the state government to strictly adhere to safety standards regarding power supply to pandals and surrounding areas. He directed senior officials to personally inspect pandals and speak with pandal operators to ensure strict adherence to safety standards.
Power supply cut off on immersion routes
SBPPDCL MD Mahendra Kumar and NBPDCL MD Rahul Kumar, along with senior officials from the chief and field levels, were present at the meeting. Manoj Singh stated that special care should be taken to ensure power supply to immersion routes remains cut off on the day of immersion. Power supply should be restored only after the immersion is complete. He also emphasized that preparations must be made to ensure uninterrupted and safe power supply for Chhath.
It is worth noting that sudden increases in load during festivals can lead to transformer burnouts. Preparations have also been made to immediately replace a transformer with a higher capacity in the event of a breakdown. For this, all necessary materials, including transformers, oil, and transformer transport trolleys, have been arranged. Proper maintenance of all 33 kV and 11 kV lines, as well as distribution substations, will be completed before Navratri.
Uninterrupted Power Supply in Pandals
In addition, necessary maintenance of 33 kV lines, 11 kV lines, and LT lines is being carried out. Essential maintenance work is being carried out on all 33/11 kV power substations to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the pandals. Jumpers on 33 kV, 11 kV, and LT lines have been repaired.
In view of the increased load during the festivals, the Energy Secretary directed that all maintenance work be completed on time and in accordance with SOPs. He also directed that adequate backup materials be kept in storage to ensure that supply is not disrupted in case of an emergency. He asked to exercise special caution in the pandal areas, follow safety standards and conduct regular inspections.
