Bihar and floods have an old relation, the ring dam built at a cost of 44 crores in Gopalpur, Bhagalpur got submerged in the Ganga in a moment, causing devastation all around.

Bihar and floods have an old relation and now a new chapter of corruption has been added between these two. Here, those who have the responsibility of saving lives, find a golden opportunity to fill their own pockets in the natural disaster, which results in a horrific scene. An example of this was seen in Gopalpur of Bhagalpur. The ring dam built here at a cost of 44 crores got submerged in the Ganga in a moment, due to which clouds of disaster started hovering over hundreds of families. Scenes of devastation started appearing everywhere. The area was flooded. By the time people could recover, the Ganga river had entered many villages. The surprising thing is that before the flood, 15 crore rupees were spent on the repair of this dam, which got washed away with the water.

After the collapse of Gopalpur Bind Toli ring dam under Navgachiya subdivision of Bhagalpur district, the situation is horrific. The condition of hundreds of families has become miserable. Half the population has migrated and half are staying awake at night. Water has entered more than a dozen villages due to the collapse of more than 200 meters of the dam. There is a scene of devastation all around. Villages have been submerged. After the dam collapsed, the team of TV9 Digital reached the erosion site by boat.

Rs 15 crore spent on repairing the dam

A very frightening picture was seen here. The scope of erosion is continuously increasing. Many houses have come under its grip. The displaced flood victims living on the dam are continuously migrating. Let us tell you that this dam was built in 2008 at a cost of 44 crores, so that dozens of villages which face the tragedy of floods could be saved. This year 15 crores were spent on anti-erosion work on this dam, but the dam fell prey to corruption.

Ganga flowing above the danger mark

Currently the water level of Ganga is 58 centimeters above the danger mark here. Today the water level has decreased a bit, but there is a possibility of water level rising again in the next 48 hours. The District Magistrate is constantly taking stock of the situation. A dozen SDRF teams and NDRF teams have been deployed for rescue in the Ganga river. The village is being completely evacuated. At the same time, the people living on the dam have also been instructed to vacate the dam as soon as possible. Instructions have been given to completely vacate the dam by Wednesday night.

What did the District Magistrate say?
The District Magistrate, along with subordinate officers, took stock of the condition of the dam and the submerged village from the SDRF boat. Also, instructed to get restoration work done on the dam. District Magistrate Naval Kishore Chaudhary said that the people living on the dam have already been provided land. People have forcibly encroached the dam. We cannot put lakhs of people in trouble for a few people, where there is a cut, the work of restoration is going on continuously.

Bhagalpur Flood

Questions arising due to the collapse of the dam
However, after the collapse of this dam, many questions are being raised. After all, why could the ring dam built at a cost of 44 crores not withstand the falling water level of the Ganga? 15 crores were spent on repairs, how did it get washed away so easily? Water spread in many villages, due to which normal life was disrupted, who is responsible for this? Dozens of houses were destroyed, who will compensate for that? A large part of the dam collapsed, will action be taken against the careless officers and engineers? If this dam had collapsed at night, there was a possibility of a huge loss of life and property, who would be responsible for that? After all, till when will this ring dam be reconstructed in a solid manner?
