Voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections has concluded. A record 64.66% voter turnout was recorded across 121 seats in 18 districts, the highest ever in the state’s electoral history. Previously, in 2000, the voter turnout was 62.57%. Regarding today’s voting, State Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjyal stated that, apart from isolated incidents at some locations, voting was peaceful. Voters were enthusiastic, with long queues at polling booths since early morning.

The total number of voters for the 121 seats that went to polls in the first phase exceeds 37.5 million. The fate of prominent leaders like Tejashwi Yadav, Samrat Chaudhary, Tej Pratap Yadav, Maithili Thakur, and Anant Singh, as well as 16 ministers of the current government, was sealed in EVMs. A total of 1,314 candidates were in the fray in this phase.

• Among the 16 ministers in the Nitish government, the BJP-affiliated candidates are Samrat Chaudhary from Tarapur, Vijay Kumar Sinha from Lakhisarai, Mangal Pandey from Siwan, Nitin Naveen from Bankipur, Jivesh Mishra from Jale, Sanjay Sarawagi from Darbhanga Urban, Kedar Prasad Gupta from Kudhni, Raju Kumar from Sahebganj, Krishna Kumar Mantu from Amanour, Sunil Kumar from Bihar Sharif, and Surendra Mehta from Bachhwara.
• Five ministers are from the JDU. These include Vijay Kumar Chaudhary from Sarairanjan, Shravan Kumar from Nalanda, Madan Sahni from Bahadurpur, Maheshwar Hazari from Kalyanpur, and Ratnesh Sada from Sonbarsa. 45,341 polling booths were set up for the first phase. • After voting, Tejashwi Yadav said, “The first phase of voting has ended today. There has been a bumper turnout. I can say that the people have sealed the victory of the Grand Alliance. • Prashant Kishore, founder of Jan Suraj, also commented on the bumper turnout in the first phase. He said, “The highest voter turnout in the last 30 years is a sign that change is coming to Bihar. A new system is going to be established on November 14th.”
• Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha said, “People have faith in the double-engine government. The NDA government will be formed again. Lakhisarai has been made a hot seat. Tejashwi Yadav had said, ‘Take it in writing, Vijay Sinha will not win from here.’ Some people had made it a matter of prestige, but the public has given a befitting reply.”
• Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary said, “I want to thank the administration, the people, and the Election Commission of Bihar for the peaceful voting. The reports we have received after the first phase show that the NDA is winning around 100 out of 121 seats.” The Grand Alliance’s chief ministerial candidate is also set to lose in today’s election.
