Eight minors including seven girls drowned while bathing in ponds in two different villages during the ‘Jivitputrika’ festival on Wednesday in Aurangabad district of Bihar. Eight children died due to drowning in the pond. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences on the death of minors due to drowning while bathing in Kushha village of Madanpur block and Ithat village of Barun block under Aurangabad district.
CM Nitish announced compensation
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office on Wednesday, Nitish said that he is deeply saddened by this incident. The Chief Minister has directed to provide ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased without delay. The Chief Minister has prayed to God to give strength to the family members of the deceased to bear patience in this hour of grief.

The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Kumar (8), Sonali Kumari (13), Neelam Kumari (12), Rakhi Kumari (12), Anku Kumari (15), Nisha Kumari (12), Chulbul Kumari (13), Lajo Kumari (15), Rashi Kumari (18). Aurangabad District Magistrate Srikant Shastri said, “The incident happened when these people had gone to various ponds with their family members to take a holy bath on the occasion of ‘Jivitputrika’ festival.
He said that on receiving the information, the officials immediately reached there and the people were taken out of the ponds and taken to the nearest hospital, where they were declared dead.” He said that the district administration and police officials are taking further action.
Senior Gandhian Brajkishore Singh dies
Meanwhile, senior Gandhian and former Bihar minister Brajkishore Singh died in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 94 years old. Singh breathed his last at a hospital in Motihari at around 3 pm on Wednesday. He was a minister in the Bihar government from 1982 to 1985. Currently, he was the secretary of the Gandhi Museum, East Champaran
