Once again, there is a stir in Bihar politics. Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) founder and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has termed the upcoming assembly elections as a ‘do or die’ battle for his party. Angry at not getting the recognized status even after ten years of the formation of the party, Manjhi has clearly said that this time his entire strength will be put into the electoral battle.
Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said that any party has two options to become a recognized party. First, winning at least eight seats in the assembly and second, getting six percent of the total votes. He said that HAM party is also moving towards this goal and two possible ways have been decided for this.
Manjhi said that the first way is to contest elections on at least 15 seats by becoming a part of the NDA alliance and win more than 50 percent of them. Also, the second way is to field candidates on 50 to 100 seats in the state and get more than 10 thousand votes on an average in each area.
Manjhi said that to keep the enthusiasm of the party workers alive, he had recently talked about fielding candidates on all 243 seats, but this was only a message to boost morale, not a practical strategy.
The final decision on the strategy is in the hands of the party – Jitan Ram Manjhi
He said that if the party leadership authorizes him to take strategic decisions, he will take necessary steps keeping in view the electoral equation. Manjhi also reminded that he had formed his own party in 2015 when he was forced to resign from the post of Chief Minister for the return of Nitish Kumar.
Non-recognized party despite the active role of the family
It is worth noting that Manjhi’s son Santosh Kumar Suman is currently the national president of HAM Party and is also a minister in the Nitish government. At the same time, his wife Deepa and mother-in-law Jyoti Devi are members of the state assembly. Despite this, the party is still in the category of non-recognized party.
Not getting recognition is humiliating
Manjhi said that a decade has passed since the formation of the party, but even today we are a registered party, but have not got the status of a recognized party. This is humiliating for me personally as well as for the party. Therefore, this time the assembly elections are a do or die battle for us.
He further said that HAM party will make every possible effort to register its strong presence in Bihar politics and will work to show the public that it can become a decisive force in the political stream of the state.
