Bihar Raghopur bridge: Today (23 June) is a historic day for Raghopur in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the 9.76 km long six-lane bridge from Patna’s Kachchi Dargah to Bidupur via Raghopur today. This bridge has been built for the Diara area of Raghopur, which was facing traffic problems for years. In the first phase, this bridge will start till Raghopur. The work till Bidupur will be completed in the next 3 months.

An island-like area in the middle of the Ganga

Raghopur is an island-like area in the middle of the Ganga river. Where more than 70 percent of the population lives in Diara. The people here have been dependent on boats for commuting. In the year 1993, the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav gave the gift of a pontoon bridge, but it was useful only for 6 months. Boats were the only means of transport when the water level of the Ganga rose. In 2010, Raghopur residents defeated Rabri Devi and elected local leader Satish Kumar to the city demanding a concrete bridge.

It took 9 years to build the bridge

On Satish Kumar’s demand, Nitish Kumar approved the construction of this bridge in 2015. The foundation stone was laid in August 2015 and after the formation of the Mahagathbandhan government in November 2015, Tejashwi Yadav inaugurated it in a big program in Raghopur.

After about 9 years, today this dream is coming true. This is a 19-km road project, which includes a 9.76-km extra dosed cable stay bridge. Its width is 32 meters and it has been designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

The region will develop economically

A loan of Rs 3,000 crore has been taken from the Asian Development Bank for the construction of this bridge. At the same time, the state government has spent Rs 2,000 crore. This bridge will connect not only Raghopur but also Patna, Bidupur and Vaishali, boosting economic development in the region.
