BRICS Summit 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Kazan, Russia on Tuesday (22 October 2024) to attend the 16th BRICS Summit. He left India at around 7:40 am. His plane landed in Kazan at around 1.30 pm.
PM Modi was given a warm welcome on his arrival in Kazan. He will be in Russia for two days to attend the BRICS Summit, being held under the Chairmanship of Russia. The Prime Minister held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from BRICS member countries and will have bilateral talks with China on Wednesday (23 October). This is Modi’s second visit to Russia in the year 2024, before which he went to Moscow in July to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.

Met Putin
PM Modi and Russian President Putin held a bilateral meeting today. In this, different issues of both the countries were discussed. On the other hand, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has announced that President Xi Jinping arrived in Russia to participate in this summit being chaired by Russia and met President Putin. There was no confirmation of the meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping earlier, but today Foreign Secretary Misri officially confirmed that there will be bilateral talks between India and China.
PM Modi invites Putin to visit India next year
A bilateral meeting was convened between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday (October 22) on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan. During this meeting, the Prime Minister’s Office said that PM Modi invited Putin to visit India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in the coming year. The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation between their countries in various fields including political, economic, defense, energy and people-to-people relations. This was the second meeting between PM Modi and President Putin this year after their last meeting in Moscow for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in July 2024. PM Modi thanked President Putin for the invitation to attend the 16th BRICS summit. He appreciated the Russian chairmanship of BRICS and its efforts to promote multilateralism, promote sustainable development and advocate reforms in global governance.
