Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez will on Monday inaugurate Tata’s aircraft complex in Vadodara, Gujarat. The C-295 aircraft will be manufactured in this complex by Tata Advanced Systems.
This will be the first private sector unit in India, in which military aircraft will be made by assembling parts prepared at different places.
Tata Advanced Systems will make these 40 aircraft in India
During his Gujarat visit, PM Modi will also launch development projects worth more than Rs 4,900 crore in Amreli. The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that under the agreement, 40 aircraft will be made at the Vadodara plant, while aviation company Airbus will supply 16 aircraft. Tata Advanced Systems will make these 40 aircraft in India.

Public sector companies – Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics and private micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will contribute to this project. The statement said that it will include the complete development of a complete ecosystem from manufacturing to assembly, testing and qualification, delivery and maintenance of the entire life cycle of the aircraft. Apart from Tata, major defence public sector units, such as Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics, as well as private micro, small and medium enterprises will contribute to the programme.
Equipment such as landing gear and avionics will be provided by Airbus
As part of the C-295 project, over 13,000 parts, 4,600 sub-assemblies and all major component assemblies will be manufactured in the country. Of course, equipment such as engines, landing gear and avionics will be provided by Airbus, and integrated into the aircraft. The tactical airlifter is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW127G turboprop engines.
The aircraft can carry up to nine tonnes of payload or 71 personnel or 45 paratroopers and has a maximum speed of 480 kmph. It can also operate from short or unprepared airstrips and has a rear ramp to drop para troops and cargo.

The project has been developed through collaboration between the state government and the Dholakia Foundation under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Modi will also inaugurate various rail, road, water and tourism projects.
