CBI Action In Railways Paper Leak Case: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has exposed the paper leak case of departmental examination in East Central Railway. The scam took place in Mughalsarai, where the CBI raided on the night of (3-4 March 2025) and arrested 26 railway officials. A senior railway officer (Sr. DEE Ops), 8 other railway employees and 17 loco pilots were found involved in this case.

How was the scam exposed?

East Central Railway had conducted a departmental examination for the recruitment of Chief Loco Inspector on 4 March 2025, but before the examination, the CBI received information that the paper had been leaked. On this basis, the CBI raided 3 different places in Mughalsarai, where 17 candidates were caught with a photocopy of the handwritten question paper.

How was the paper leaked?

CBI investigation revealed that the senior officer (Sr. DEE Ops) was given the responsibility of preparing the question paper for this examination. He himself prepared the question paper in English and gave it to a loco pilot. The loco pilot translated it into Hindi and handed it over to an employee named OS (Trg.). After this, OS (Trg.) with the help of other railway employees delivered this paper to the candidates. CBI exposed this entire gang and arrested many railway employees including a senior officer (Sr. DEE Ops) on charges of taking bribe and selling the question paper.

17 candidates arrested, Rs 1.17 crore in cash recovered
The 17 loco pilots who were caught by CBI with the question paper had paid a hefty amount to get it. CBI raided 8 different places, from where Rs 1.17 crore in cash was recovered. This money was taken from the candidates in exchange for leaking the question paper.

CBI also collected evidence
CBI seized handwritten question papers and their photocopies during the raid. These documents were compared with the original question paper and they matched completely. This made it clear that the paper leak case is true and corruption has taken place on a large scale.

Investigation continues on the matter
CBI has clarified that the investigation of the case is still going on and involvement of more people can come to the fore. Departmental examinations in railways provide employees with an opportunity for promotion but such scams raise questions on the entire selection process.

Conclusion
This action of CBI has exposed the ongoing corruption and exam leak racket in the railways. This incident has raised serious questions on the transparency of selection of railway employees and candidates. Now it remains to be seen which other names come out in the further investigation of CBI and what action the government takes on this.
