Satyapal Malik In Hospital: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday filed a chargesheet against former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik and five others in the Kiru Hydroelectric Project bribery case. After the FIR was registered in 2022, the CBI had said that the case relates to alleged irregularities in awarding a contract worth about Rs 2,200 crore for civil works of the Kiru Hydro Electric Power (HEP) project to a private company in 2019. Meanwhile, Satyapal Malik said in a post on ‘X’ on Thursday that he is hospitalized and is not in a position to talk to anyone. The former governor said that he is getting calls from many well-wishers, but he is unable to talk.
Former UP Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has reacted to this. He wrote in a post on ‘X’, “In view of the very serious condition of Satyapal Malik ji admitted in the hospital, the government is urged to provide him the best treatment immediately on top priority basis.” Satyapal Malik himself had raised the issue of bribery
Let us tell you that the issue of bribery in the allocation of this contract was raised by Malik himself, when he was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from 23 August 2018 to 30 October 2019. Satyapal Malik had then alleged that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to approve two files, one of which was related to the Kiru hydroelectric project, but he refused to accept it.
Questions have been raised over the awarding of the contract for civil works to Patel Engineering Limited, a major infrastructure and construction company established in 1949. The CBI registered a case against Patel Engineering as well as the Chairman, MD and Directors of Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPPL).
What is said in the FIR?
The FIR said that an investigation was conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Power Department and it was found that e-tendering guidelines were not followed in the allocation of civil works in the project. Apart from this, allegations of shoddy work and failure to provide employment to local youth were also made against the hydropower project.
