Certificates of Indian citizenship were issued to people living as refugees, Know what people said

Under the Citizenship Amendment Act, 14 people were granted Indian citizenship in the first set on Wednesday (May 15). Information about this was given by the Union Home Ministry. These people, who have been living as refugees in India till now, were issued certificates of Indian citizenship.

After getting the certificate of Indian citizenship, a former refugee expressed his happiness. Talking to news agency ANI, he said, “We are feeling very good. We came in 2014, when CAA was passed, we were happy and today we are even happier.”

 

‘In Pakistan, we were forced to go out wearing burqa’

After the refugee tag was removed, a woman said, “There was more problem in Pakistan. In Pakistan, we had to go out wearing burqa. In India, we can go out as per our wish.” Regarding the process of getting Indian citizenship under CAA, he said that he had applied very easily.

 

‘Born again’ – said the person on getting citizenship

At the same time, on getting Indian citizenship, another person said, “We have been living on Majun ka Tila in Delhi for about 14 years. It feels like we have been born again.” He said, “We came from Pakistan. Now, after getting the right to citizenship, we can do jobs along with studies. It is a very good feeling.” He thanked the BJP government at the Center and said that we have been born again.

 

A person named Arjun told news agency ANI, ”We came to Delhi in 2014. Before that, we lived in Gujarat for four years. We are very happy to get citizenship. After coming from Pakistan, I could not study due to lack of certificate. Because of this, I was living by doing small jobs. Now with this certificate, our children will also be able to study. I thank PM Modi and Amit Shah very much.”

 

When did the Citizenship Amendment Act come into force?

The Citizenship Amendment Act was passed by Parliament on 11 December 2019. During this time, there were violent agitations and protests against CAA across the country. Before the announcement of the dates of the Lok Sabha elections, the Government of India notified the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 on March 11, 2024.
