There was an encounter between security personnel and Naxalites in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday morning, in which security personnel killed three Naxalites. Bodies of three Naxalites and two weapons have been recovered from the encounter site. Apart from this, the operation being run by BSF is still going on.
Kanker Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Alesela said the encounter took place around 8 a.m. on a hillock between Bhomra-Huratarai villages of Koyalibera police station area, where a team of security personnel was conducting an operation against Naxalites.
There was information about 5 Naxalites hiding
Security forces had received input about the presence of cadres linked to the company number. Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Alesela said that we had received input that 5 Naxalites were hiding in Bhomra, Hurtarai and Michebeda villages.
The official said that a joint squad of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the 30th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) was sent to the area on Saturday night. The officer further said that on seeing the police, the Naxalites started firing, on which BSF and police personnel retaliated and killed three soldiers.
Weapons also recovered from Maoists
There is also news that five Naxalites were hiding there, out of which two escaped. The operation to search for them is still going on. Bodies of three Naxalites and some muzzle loading guns have been recovered from the incident site. The officer said that the dead Naxalites have not been identified yet.
3 thousand Naxalite attacks took place in Chhattisgarh
According to statistics, Chhattisgarh remains the center of Naxalite attacks. According to the Home Ministry, 14 districts of Chhattisgarh are Naxal affected. According to the data of Naxalite attacks in Chhattisgarh released by the Home Ministry, there were 305 attacks within the state in 2022. There have been 3 thousand 447 Naxalite attacks in Chhattisgarh between 2013 and 2022.
