There is silence in Baloda Bazar of Chhattisgarh. After the riot on Monday, policemen are deployed at every nook and corner of the city. Section 144 is imposed in the city. Anti-social elements are being monitored through CCTV cameras. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has sought a report on the entire incident from the Chief Secretary of the state and the Director General of Police.
The agitation of the Satnami community suddenly turned violent on Monday. The protesters set fire to about 70 vehicles and also vandalized a government office. 5000 protesters started pelting stones. The barricades put up by the police were also torn down by the protesters.
According to SP Sadanand Kumar of Baloda Bazar, the police was aware of the demonstration of the Satnami community. The people of the Satnami community had given a written assurance to the police administration that the protest would be peaceful. Many policemen have been injured in this incident of stone pelting.
The culprits will not be spared – SP
The SP said that the miscreants also entered the premises of the DM office. They vandalized there too. The office was set on fire. Vehicles were set on fire. The SP said that the miscreants are being identified on the basis of video footage related to the incident. The culprits will not be spared. Strictest action will be taken. The damage caused in the violence is being assessed. Investigation of Baloda Bazaar violence has been started.
Why is the Satnami community angry?
On May 15, the religious place of the Satnami community located in Manakoni of Girodpuri was vandalized. The Satnami community is demanding a central agency investigation into this. Expressing displeasure, the people of the Satnami community had talked about protesting at Dussehra Maidan on Monday, and also called for a siege of the District Magistrate’s office.
70 vehicles burnt to ashes
50 bikes, more than two dozen cars have been damaged in the violence. CM Vishnu Dev Sai has summoned the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police and inquired about the incident. Deputy CM Vijay Sharma has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident. Vijay Sharma said that whoever has tried to disturb the social harmony, strict action will be taken against the culprits. Rally and procession have been banned in Baloda Bazar.
