Chicago: Palestine supporters demonstrated strongly and blocked roads in America’s Illinois, California, New York and Pacific Northwest. The protest led to a temporary closure of traffic at the country’s major airports and the Golden Gate, the always-busy West Coast Highway. According to Rifka Falaneh, who is demonstrating in support of Palestine, protesters protested there around 7 am in Chicago by blocking the interstate highway leading to O’Hare International Airport.

Protesters blocked all vehicles and pedestrians from moving on the Golden Gate Bridge in the San Francisco area, disrupting traffic for several hours. Similarly, protesters demonstrated on Interstate 880 in Oakland. Protesters marching in Brooklyn also blocked the road leading to Manhattan on the Brooklyn Bridge. Additionally, protesters blocked Interstate Highway 5 in Eugene and Oregon, disrupting traffic on the highway for about 45 minutes.

Chicago resident Madeline Hannon said she was supposed to board a plane from O’Hare to Florida, but due to the protests she and her husband were stranded for 20 minutes. He said that in such a situation he got out of his car and ran for 1.6 kilometers to reach the airport. Hannon said that although she reached there on time, she faced difficulties. According to the Chicago Department of Aviation, operations at the airport resumed 15 minutes late and were normal thereafter. At the same time, traffic on the route leading to O’Hare Airport also became normal again around 9 am.
