Congress has announced the names of its candidates for the upcoming biennial elections of the Legislative Council (MLC) in Telangana. In a release issued by party general secretary KC Venugopal, it has been told that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal of candidature of Addanki Dayakar, Kethavath Shankar Naik and Vijayashanti as Congress candidates in the upcoming biennial elections of Telangana Legislative Council to be elected by the MLAs.
Venugopal said that Congress has decided to give one seat to CPI as part of its alliance. Earlier, voting for 3 seats of Telangana Legislative Council was held on 27 February last month, while the counting of votes took place on 3 March. These three seats included Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduate and Teachers constituency as well as Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers constituency. 56 candidates were in the fray for the Graduates constituency, while 15 candidates contested from the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers constituency and 19 candidates contested from the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers constituency.

BJP-supported candidates won 2 seats
In the Legislative Council elections, BJP-supported candidates won two out of three seats, while independent candidate Sripal Reddy Pingili (supported by the teachers union) won one seat. The special thing was that Congress did not get a single seat in this election. On BJP’s victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the candidates and thanked the people. Apart from this, the PM also thanked the party workers.
In Telangana, BJP’s Malka Komaraiya won from Medak-Karimnagar-Adilabad-Nizamabad (Teacher) constituency, while Chinnamal Anji Reddy won from Karimnagar-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Medak (Graduate) constituency. Apart from this, independent candidate Shripal Reddy Pingili won in Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teacher MLC election. The term of the current five MLCs is ending on March 29, due to which elections are being held. Notification has been issued for biennial elections.
