Congress MP Shashi Tharoor: We have reached a stage where tensions are needlessly spiralling out of control… the situation of 1971 is not the situation of 2025

The ongoing military clashes between India and Pakistan have now ended. Both countries have agreed on ceasefire on Saturday. India destroyed all the major airbases of Pakistan with missile attacks. Pakistan continuously attacked India with missiles and drones which were destroyed by India’s air defense. After this, Pakistan demanded ceasefire. Now this ceasefire between India and Pakistan is being compared to the Indo-Pak war of 1971. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has given a big statement regarding this comparison. The situation of 1971 is not the situation of 2025: Shashi Tharoor

On the agreement reached between India and Pakistan, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, “We had reached a stage where tensions were getting out of control unnecessarily. Peace is important for us. The truth is that the situation of 1971 is not the situation of 2025. There are differences… This was not a war that we wanted to continue. We just wanted to teach the terrorists a lesson and that lesson has been taught. I am sure the government will continue to try to identify and trace the individuals who perpetrated the horrors of Pahalgam.”

Just firing shells is not a clear objective – Shashi Tharoor
When asked about the comparison of Indira Gandhi’s work as Prime Minister with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance on social media, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said – “1971 was a great achievement, Indira Gandhi rewrote the map of the subcontinent, but the circumstances were different. Bangladesh was fighting for a moral cause, and liberating Bangladesh was a clear objective. Just firing shells at Pakistan is not a clear objective.”
