A student has died and four others are injured in a stabbing incident inside a school in Croatia’s capital Zagreb. A seven-year-old student was killed and four people were injured when a teenager attacked the school with a knife on Friday. Officials said the attack took place at a school in the Preko area at 9:50 am. The attacker has been identified as a 19-year-old teenager and has been taken into custody.
Police officials said the attacker also tried to harm himself. State-run HRT television reported that the attacker entered the school and went straight to the first class and attacked the children.
The attacker is also injured
Croatia’s Home Minister Davor Bojinovic said three children and a teacher were injured, while one child died while the attacker was also injured. Bojinovic said, “The 19-year-old attacker is a former student of the school and lives in the nearby area. He tried to kill himself by attacking himself but was overpowered by police.” Bozinovic said the attacker had mental health problems in the past and had tried to kill himself before. Video footage broadcast by Croatian media showed students running out of the school building.
