Cyclone Ditwah has wreaked havoc in Sri Lanka, killing over 150 people and affecting millions. After wreaking havoc in Sri Lanka, Cyclone Ditwah will hit the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for several areas. India has sent over 21 tons of relief supplies to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu. Consequently, a red alert for rain has been issued in Tamil Nadu. Air India has also issued an advisory.

Fifty-four flights were cancelled on Saturday due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. Ditwah has caused floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, killing over 150 people and leaving over 191 missing. Ten teams from NDRF bases in Maharashtra and Gujarat have arrived in Chennai.

Rain Red Alert in Tamil Nadu
Cyclone Ditwah is moving towards Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rains triggered by the storm have disrupted life in many coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. A red alert for extremely heavy rainfall has been issued in several districts. Flight and train services have been disrupted in Chennai. Several NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed in several areas of Tamil Nadu and are operating on alert mode.

Emergency declared in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka was trying to recover from the massive devastation caused by a powerful cyclone on Saturday. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared a state of emergency across the country. Horrifying reports are emerging from various states of people being buried in landslides or swept away by flash floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

The situation in Sri Lanka is dire due to Cyclone Ditwah. 774,724 people from 217,263 families across 25 districts have been affected by the disaster, with floods, landslides, and heavy rains causing hardship in many areas. The District Municipal Corporation (DMC) further stated that 100,898 people from 27,494 families are currently sheltering in 798 evacuation centers across the country.

India Launches Operation Sagar Bandhu
India launched Operation Sagar Bandhu on Saturday to assist Sri Lanka in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on X that an Indian Air Force IL-76 aircraft had arrived in Colombo. About 27 tonnes of relief material has so far been delivered by air and sea routes with teams of 80 NDRF personnel.
