Cyclone Remal: Cyclone Remal killed seven people in Bangladesh, power supply disrupted in many areas, hundreds of villages flooded

Cyclone Remal has wreaked havoc in Bangladesh. Seven people have died after it reached the coastal areas. Power supply has come to a standstill in many areas. Due to this, lakhs of people are facing trouble. When Remal hit the coast, strong winds blowing at a speed of 120 km per hour have affected life. Hundreds of villages have been flooded.

The Meteorological Department has said that after hitting the coast on Sunday midnight, Cyclone Remal weakened slightly on Monday morning. The wind speed has been recorded at 80 to 90 km per hour. Heavy rains occurred 150 km north-east of Sagar Island at 5.30 am. After this, Remal started weakening as it moved forward. Remal is the first cyclonic storm formed in the Bay of Bengal in the pre-monsoon this year. The monsoon season lasts from June to September.

Remal’s havoc seen in these areas
The effect of strong winds and heavy rains was seen in Barisal, Satkhira, Bhola, Patuakhali and Chattogram, among other areas. A man was returning home to bring his sister and aunt to a safe place in Patuakhali. Then he became a victim of the strong current of water. A tragic incident also took place in Satkhira. A person running to escape the storm died after falling.

Employees busy restoring power supply

Along with this, five people have died in Barisal, Bhola and Chattogram. A trawler sank in Mongla. Two people including a child went missing. The Rural Electricity Authority cut off power to the homes of 1.5 crore people in coastal areas. In some areas, the power cut continued for more than 12 hours. However, employees are busy preparing to restore power supply.
