A young man from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, committed suicide by hanging himself in Dibrugarh, Assam. The incident took place on December 27th. The young man’s body arrived at his home in Bamburiya, Maharajpur, on Monday night. His family was devastated upon seeing his body. They accused a girl of forcing their son to commit suicide.
Deepu Yadav, a resident of the Maharajpur area, wanted to serve the country by joining the army. He had gone to Dibrugarh to prepare for the army recruitment process. Deepu had been in a relationship with a girl from his village for the past three years. It is being reported that since Deepu went to Assam, his girlfriend had been threatening him. The girlfriend apparently feared that Deepu would break up with her and not marry her now that he was in Assam.
On December 27th, the girl video-called Deepu and threatened to kill herself if he didn’t marry her. His family alleges that Deepu was so distressed by his girlfriend’s threats that he took his own life. He committed suicide on a video call in front of the girl.

‘The girl was the last person to call Deepu’
The family alleges that Deepu’s mobile phone records show that the last call was a video call from the girl. After the body arrived in Kanpur, Deepu’s family performed his last rites. They have also submitted a complaint to the Maharajpur police, naming the girl as the reason behind the incident.
‘The girl’s family opposed the relationship’
Maharajpur police station in-charge Rajesh Kumar said that the police are investigating the matter. If the allegations are found to be true, appropriate legal action will be taken. Deepu’s father told the police that when the girl’s family found out about their relationship, they themselves opposed it. Following this, about 10 months ago, the family sent Deepu to Assam so that he could prepare for army recruitment there. The police are currently examining the call records and messages found on the mobile phone as part of their investigation. In this case, the girl threatened and intimidated the deceased.
