New Delhi: The body of a woman has been recovered from inside a ‘bed box’ in a flat in the capital Delhi. A day after the incident, two people including the owner of the flat were arrested on Saturday. Police said that the arrested people have been identified as flat owner Vivekanand Mishra (64) and Abhay Kumar Jha alias Sonu (29). At the same time, the woman’s husband Ashish Kumar (45) is still absconding.
Saw all three in objectionable condition
Giving information about the case, police sources said that Anju alias Anjali (35) lived with her husband in Delhi. A few days ago, she saw the three people in an objectionable condition, after which she left the house and went to her parents’ house in Ludhiana, Punjab. According to sources, Ashish went to Ludhiana on March 21 and brought Anju back to Delhi, two days later on March 23, the three people killed Anju.
Body hidden in bed box after murder
After committing the murder, they put the body inside a bed in the flat of landlord Vivekanand Mishra. They then fled to Jaipur, where they stayed at the house of Abhay Kumar Jha’s cousin. Sources said the call detail records confirmed that the three accused had gone to Jaipur together on March 23. Vivekanand Mishra then returned to Delhi the next day, while Abhay and Ashish left for Bihar.
Police were informed after a foul smell was noticed
Sources said the three men were looking for ways to dispose of the body. Meanwhile, on March 28, Vivek Vihar police station received a call on PCR regarding a foul smell coming from a DDA flat in Satyam Enclave. “On reaching there, the police found the house locked from outside and there were blood stains near the back door,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said. He said after entering the flat, they found Anju’s body wrapped in a blanket and kept inside the bed in a bag.
Police arrested two accused
A senior police official said that the police immediately traced the house owner Vivekanand Mishra and arrested him from Surajmal Park in Anand Vihar, who was trying to escape. During interrogation, he revealed the involvement of Abhay Kumar Jha, a driver from Supaul in Bihar, and Anju’s husband Ashish. He told the police that on March 28, Abhay Kumar Jha came to Delhi to help them dispose of the body and stayed at a hotel in Paharganj.
Search for absconding husband continues
After learning about Vivekanand Mishra’s arrest, he boarded the Magadh Express in an attempt to flee to Bihar, but was nabbed at Aligarh railway station with the help of the Government Railway Police (GRP). The police are now looking for Ashish. A case has been registered and investigation is on, police said. According to the police, Anju was married to Ashish Kumar, a resident of Bihar, and they also have a four-year-old daughter.
