Delhi: After the CAG report came out before the assembly elections, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal is surrounded by questions in the political world, loss of Rs 2026 crore to the government treasury

The CAG report that came out during the elections in Delhi has put the Arvind Kejriwal government in the dock. The CAG report claims that the Delhi government’s excise policy has caused a loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the government treasury. This report has further intensified the echo of the liquor scam. Especially this report has come out just before the Delhi Assembly elections.

The report has revealed many shortcomings and irregularities in the making and implementation of Delhi’s liquor policy 2021-2022.

– The government suffered a loss of Rs 2,026 crore – Expert opinion was ignored while making the liquor policy – Expert panel was consulted but their recommendations were ignored – Irregularities while issuing licenses to liquor companies – Licenses were issued to companies already running in loss and blacklisted – Lack of transparency in making and implementing the liquor policy – Lack of transparency in the price of liquor and giving licenses exposed – Allegations of cabinet and lieutenant governor ignoring decisions regarding liquor policy – In the liquor policy, license fees of Rs 144 crore of many companies were wrongly waived in the name of Covid.

The special thing is that in this CAG report, a detailed analysis of the loss caused by the liquor policy has also been done. This analysis also includes the loss caused by the exemption given for Covid 19 and not renewing the old license.

How the government treasury suffered losses

– Loss of Rs 890 crore due to non-tendering of withdrawn licenses – Loss of Rs 941 crore due to improper exemption to zonal license holders – Loss of Rs 144 crore due to wrong waiver given in the name of Covid-19 – Loss of Rs 27 crore due to not collecting security deposit properly

The report also alleges that wrong agreements were made between license holders and wholesalers. Neither a testing lab was built to check the quality of liquor nor were retail shops distributed equally. Obviously, this report has heated up the election atmosphere in Delhi.

BJP has used this report as a weapon to directly attack the Aam Aadmi Party. It alleged that the public suffered losses due to this policy, while AAP leaders got huge commissions. However, the Aam Aadmi Party has called this report politically motivated.
