Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel has cancelled the membership of Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Tanwar. This action has been taken under the anti-defection law. On Tuesday, the Delhi Assembly Secretariat issued a notice informing about this. Kartar Tanwar won the 2020 assembly elections from Chhatarpur in Delhi on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket, but later changed sides and joined the BJP. Along with Tanwar, former Delhi minister Raj Kumar Anand also left the AAP. His membership has already been cancelled. The notice issued regarding Tanwar’s membership states that his membership is cancelled from July 10.
Who is Kartar Singh Tanwar
Before entering politics, Kartar Singh Tanwar was a junior engineer in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Tanwar started his politics in 2007, before AAP he was in the BJP. He has also been a councilor of the Delhi Municipal Corporation. He came into the limelight during the protest against the mass transfer policy of Delhi government teachers. He joined Aam Aadmi Party in 2014 and won from Chhatarpur on the party’s election symbol in the 2015 assembly elections. After that, he won again in the 2020 elections. In July this year, he left AAP and returned to BJP.
Owner of property worth crores
According to the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Tanwar has declared his total assets worth Rs 17.64 crore. This includes immovable property worth Rs 7.69 crore and movable property worth Rs 9.95 crore. But when the Income Tax Department raided his residence in 2016, it was revealed that he has benami property worth Rs 130 crore. More than 100 officers of the Income Tax Department raided dozens of places of Tanwar. 20 companies were also found in his possession during the Income Tax raid. Jewellery and cash worth crores were also recovered from his house during the raid.
