Delhi: Chips will be installed in about 10 lakh stray dogs, a special animal monitoring committee will be formed

A big decision has been taken regarding stray dogs in Delhi. Now about 10 lakh stray dogs of Delhi will be chipped. Rabies control action plan will be presented soon regarding this.

Microchipping of dogs will strengthen rabies control and population management. Registration of pet shops will be mandatory. Also, a special monitoring committee will be formed.

Animal market monitoring committee will be formed
Animal welfare committees will be formed in every district. Awareness will be created in collaboration with the education department. Animal market monitoring committee will be formed to monitor animal markets.

Places will be made to feed dogs
At the same time, Satya Sharma, chairman of the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), on Tuesday (September 9) directed the officials to make a place to feed stray dogs in every ward of the city, Satya said that in coordination with the local municipal councilors, three to four places will be identified in each ward, where places will be made to feed dogs.

‘Submit report in a week’
The officials were asked to submit an action taken report on the move within a week. Satya stressed that the MCD is intensifying sterilisation and vaccination drives at animal birth control (ABC) centres across the city.

A sub-committee is working on related strategies to control the stray dog ​​population and prevent the spread of diseases like rabies. Satya Sharma said uncontrolled feeding of dogs by people in public places often leads to the formation of packs, leading to conflicts and increase in dog bite incidents.

The move came after the Supreme Court urged the MCD to take immediate action to curb the problem of dog bites. Satya Sharma appealed to all councillors, residents and voluntary organisations to cooperate in the initiative.
