Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and new Chief Minister of Delhi Atishi will officially take oath as CM at 4.30 pm on Saturday (September 21). Five ministers Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Imran Hussain and Mukesh Ahlawat, who will join the Delhi Council of Ministers, will also take the oath of office and secrecy today. Mukesh Ahlawat, MLA from Sultanpur Majra assembly seat, who became an MLA for the first time, will take oath as minister today. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Niwas on Saturday.
According to officials of the Lieutenant Governor’s office, President Draupadi Murmu has appointed Atishi as the Chief Minister of Delhi from the date of swearing-in. Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation has also been accepted. A statement issued by Raj Niwas said that the President has also approved the appointment of five ministers.
Earlier on September 17, 2024, Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post of CM. After that, a meeting of AAP MLAs was held earlier this week and Atishi was unanimously elected as the leader of the ruling legislative party. The tenure of the Atishi government will be short. This is because assembly elections are to be held in Delhi in February next year. However, Arvind Kejriwal has demanded the Election Commission and the Center to hold Delhi Assembly elections in November along with the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
There are a total of 90 assembly seats in Delhi. In the assembly elections held in the year 2020, the Aam Aadmi Party was successful in winning 62 of these seats. Eight MLAs in the assembly belong to the BJP. In the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, Congress MLAs were not successful in winning a single seat.
This time too, there is a possibility of electoral contest between Aam Aadmi and BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections. However, this time the Congress is also busy making election strategy with the aim of challenging the Aam Aadmi Party with full force.
President approves Atishi’s appointment
According to Delhi Raj Niwas officials, President Draupadi Murmu has given her approval to appoint Atishi as the Chief Minister of Delhi from the date of swearing-in. She has also accepted Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation from the post of CM. A statement issued from the LG’s office said that President Draupadi Murmu has also approved the appointment of five ministers.
Delhi’s nominated CM Atishi will take oath today (21 September, Saturday) at 4.30 pm. Cabinet ministers will also take oath along with her. Along with Kalkaji MLA Atishi, five other leaders will be administered the oath of ministership by LG Vinay Kumar Saxena.
Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bhardwaj and Imran Hussain will take oath of ministership once again, while Mukesh Ahlawat, who is being included in the cabinet for the first time, will also take the oath of office and secrecy.

Whether his department will be changed this time or he will continue to hold the same responsibility will be known after the swearing-in.
Saurabh Bhardwaj

He has been responsible for the departments of Health, Urban Development, Environment, Culture, Industry, Flood Control in the Kejriwal cabinet. He is also the national spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party.
Kailash Gehlot
Kailash Gehlot is an MLA from Najafgarh. He currently has the responsibility of Home, Law, Transport, IT departments. He is also a lawyer by profession. Recently, he was discussed when Atishi was instructed to hoist the tricolor in the absence of Arvind Kejriwal, but the LG refused to give permission for this and gave this responsibility to Kailash Gehlot.
Imran Hussain
Imran Hussain, MLA from Ballimaran, has been the Food and Civil Supplies Minister in the Arvind Kejriwal cabinet. He will now be included in Atishi’s cabinet as well.
Mukesh Ahlawat
Mukesh Ahlawat will be the new name in the Atishi cabinet. Mukesh is an MLA from Sultanpur Majra assembly constituency. He is the co-in-charge of AAP in Rajasthan. On the announcement of being included in the cabinet, Mukesh Ahlawat said that there has been no change in him after becoming an MLA and even after becoming a minister, he will remain the same as before.
