The Delhi Police Special Staff busted an interstate mobile theft gang and recovered 224 stolen and snatched mobile phones. This gang would unlock and send stolen and snatched mobile phones from Delhi to Nepal via Munger, Bihar.
According to the Delhi Police, the gang members purchased stolen mobile phones from various areas of Delhi at cheap prices through natural and pick-pocketing practices. They then had the lock patterns broken by mobile repair shops in Azad Market and Gaffar Market.
The mobile phones were then sent to Nepal via Munger, Bihar, where they fetched good prices. The recent Gen Z movement and the fall of the government in Nepal have worsened the situation, forcing the consignment to remain in Delhi, and the police raided and apprehended the gang.
Delhi Police conducted a strategic operation.
Acting on intelligence, the Delhi Police arrested two accused, Vrindavan and Mukesh Kumar, from Anand Vihar Railway Station. 98 stolen mobile phones were recovered from them. Delhi Police’s interrogation revealed that both were residents of Munger district in Bihar and had been sending stolen mobile phones to Nepal for a long time.
Based on their information, the accused, identified as Vicky, Vikas, and Vicky Bind, were arrested. Delhi Police also recovered more than 120 stolen mobile phones from them. A total of 224 mobile phones and a laptop were seized. Fourteen of these mobile phones have been linked to theft and snatching cases registered at various police stations.
‘Money withdrawn from UPI after phone theft’
When contacted, the people whose mobile phones were recovered revealed that their phones were stolen during thefts and snatchings. Several victims also stated that money was withdrawn from their UPI accounts after the phones were stolen. Delhi Police is now examining the accused’s mobile phones and WhatsApp chats to identify the entire network and other receivers.
