Delhi: Delhi Police’s Special Cell (Northern Range) has achieved a major success by busting a Manipur-based interstate drugs cartel. In this operation, three main accused involved in drug smuggling have been arrested. 10 kg of high quality heroin has been recovered from them, which is estimated to be worth more than Rs 50 crore in the international market.
Arrested accused
1. Mitralal Khatiwada alias Manoj (age 45 years) – resident of Kangpokpi, Manipur
2. Krishna Nyopani (age 21 years) – resident of Senapati, Manipur
3. Akash Karki (age 25 years) – resident of Imphal West, Manipur
Police have also recovered three mobile phones from them, which were being used in drug smuggling.
According to DCP Special Cell, the Special Cell had received information that this Manipur-based drug cartel was supplying heroin in the areas of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. After this, the team gathered information through technical and manual surveillance. After several months of hard work and several visits to Manipur and West Bengal, concrete information was obtained.
On January 23, a team led by Inspector Krishna Kumar, Inspector Rakesh Kumar and Inspector Amit Nar received information that accused Mitralal alias Manoj and his accomplice Akash were going to come to Mangolpuri Industrial Area, Delhi for drug delivery. The team immediately laid a siege and as per the information, caught all three accused on the spot. According to the DCP, interrogation revealed that this cartel used to smuggle drugs through Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and West Bengal.
Mitralal Khatiwada alias Manoj told that opium was brought from the Myanmar border, which was processed in Thoubal, Manipur and converted into heroin. After this, the drugs were hidden in secret basements and supplied to Delhi-NCR through trucks via Nagaland, Assam, West Bengal. These people used to hide heroin by making secret grooves in the cabin of the truck so that they could avoid the eyes of the police.
Profile of the arrested accused
Mitralal Khatiwada alias Manoj: A resident of Kangpokpi district of Manipur. After studying till class 4, he started working as a helper in a truck and then became a driver. Gradually he started the business of drug smuggling and expanded it on a large scale.
Krishna Nyopani: A resident of Senapati district and had left studies after class 7. He was also a truck helper earlier and later came in contact with his partner and joined the drug business.
Aakash Karki: A resident of Kangla Tongbi in Imphal West. After studying till class 10, he started working as a truck helper and then got involved in drug smuggling.
At present, a case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act by the Special Cell. The police is now busy further investigating the network of this drug cartel, so that its other members and main masterminds can also be arrested.
