The Customs Department has arrested a youth on charges of smuggling foreign currency at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. According to the information received from the department, foreign currency worth Rs 1.35 crore has been recovered from the youth. The Customs Department said that the accused youth was carrying foreign currency hidden in a suitcase.
New Delhi Customs Department officials have registered a case of foreign currency smuggling against a 26-year-old Indian male passenger from Uttar Pradesh. The total value of the seized currency is ₹1,35,01,150 (one crore thirty five lakh one thousand one hundred fifty rupees). The seized foreign currency includes US Dollar- 20,000, Saudi Riyal- 5 lakh 25 thousand 500 and Qatar Riyal- 1000.
Foreign currency was hidden in a black trolley bag
According to the information received from the Customs Department, during interrogation, the passenger admitted to trying to smuggle currency out of India. The accused person was planning to go to Hyderabad from Terminal-2 of IGI Airport and then to Ras Al Khaimah in UAE on the same day. However, based on secret information, the customs officials caught the accused beforehand. In such a situation, on checking his luggage, foreign currency notes hidden in a black trolley bag were recovered.
Gold smuggling case
A few days ago, the Customs Department has arrested a Bangladeshi citizen at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, revealing a case of gold smuggling. According to the information received from the department, he was bringing gold from Dubai to India by hiding it in socks. The total value of the recovered gold has been estimated at Rs 81.76 lakh. The total weight of the recovered capsule was 1,259 grams, which was packed in brown polythene. A rectangular gold bar weighing 1,101 grams was taken out from the gold paste. Its total value is Rs 81.76 lakh.
