The CAG report of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) was discussed in the Delhi Assembly on Friday. During this, the controversy over the statement given by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on policemen has increased. Actually, while discussing the CAG report, the CM narrated an incident and called the policemen ‘Thulla’. There was a lot of uproar in the House on this. However, before this, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had also used the same word for the policemen, for which he had to apologize.
The opposition created a lot of uproar in the House when CM Rekha Gupta used such a word on the policemen. After which the Assembly Speaker removed this word from the proceedings of the House. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said on this, ‘I remember when Kejriwal ji used the word Thulla, there was an uproar for many days. But no one’s dignity will be hurt.’ Kejriwal had called Delhi Police Thulla in an interview given to a news channel 10 years ago.
What did the CM say about the police in her story?
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, while narrating the story in the House, said, ‘A shopkeeper in a village was robbed. It was a ration shop, a big theft took place. He filed a report in the police station. The police there were like the Punjab Police. After that, two thieves here, two thieves there, stood all around. There was a sack of almonds there, the policemen kept eating almonds while asking about the theft and kept asking to prepare a list of the stolen items. The shopkeeper said that thefts are still happening, the same was the situation of the Delhi government.’
Kejriwal had called Delhi Police ‘Thulla’
Aam Aadmi Party convenor and then Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had used the word ‘Thulla’ in an interview given to a news channel about a decade ago. After which the controversy continued for many days and the Chief Minister had to apologize. Kejriwal had said during the interview, ‘The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi Government can register a case against a corrupt person. If the ‘Thulla’ of Delhi Police asks for money from a street vendor, then why should a case not be registered against him. We do not accept this.’
There was a lot of controversy over this statement of Arvind Kejriwal. The then Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi came forward and objected to such words. He had said, ‘I do not think anyone would use such words against the police. But if the CM has said so, then it is insulting. He should respect the police organization.’ At the same time, now the opposition is attacking CM Rekha’s statement.
