Delhi Election Results 2025: After losing the election, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that his government has made major reforms in the field of education, health, water and electricity in the last 10 years, what will Arvind Kejriwal do next? He himself told his plan

Delhi Assembly Election Results 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a major setback in the Delhi Assembly elections. The party had to face defeat on many seats. Big leaders like former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain have lost the election. It is believed that corruption became a big issue in this election, due to which ‘AAP’ suffered heavy losses.

After the election results, Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal said. “His party came into politics not for power, but to serve the people and will do the same in future.” He humbly accepted the decision of the people of Delhi and congratulated BJP on this victory.

Corruption became the biggest issue

In 2013, Aam Aadmi Party came into politics in the name of fighting against corruption. But in the last few years, the party itself got embroiled in corruption allegations. Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in the Delhi liquor policy scam. Satyendra Jain was already in jail in a money laundering case. Even former Chief Minister Kejriwal himself was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) before the elections. All these cases caused great damage to the image of AAP.

AAP listed its works

Arvind Kejriwal said, “His government made major reforms in the field of education, health, water and electricity in the last 10 years. The condition of government schools in Delhi improved, mohalla clinics started and the rates of electricity and water were also kept under control. But despite these works, the allegations of corruption broke the trust of the public.

AAP will play the role of a strong opposition – Kejriwal

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said, “Now the Aam Aadmi Party will play the role of a strong opposition and will always stand with the public in their happiness and sorrow.” He also congratulated the workers and said that they worked hard throughout the election and faced many difficulties.

Out of the total 70 assembly seats in Delhi, BJP has won 48 seats while AAP won only 22 seats. Now the biggest challenge before the Aam Aadmi Party is to save its credibility. Will it be able to recreate its old image among the public or will this defeat become a threat to the existence of AAP? Only time will tell.

6 major reasons for AAP’s defeat in Delhi elections, understand in detail

The results of Delhi assembly elections are out and after 27 years BJP is coming back to power with a landslide victory. Along with this, the party leaders are disappointed as the results are contrary to what Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party was expecting. BJP, which had 8 seats, reached 48 seats this time, while Aam Aadmi Party fell directly from 62 seats to 22.

Meanwhile, the question arises that why did the people of Delhi not bring AAP back even after so many announcements and schemes? Actually, there are not one but many reasons for this.

1. Anti-incumbency

After being in power for 10 years, Aam Aadmi Party had to face anti-incumbency this time. Even though the party has given good results in the field of education and health, poor air quality and polluted water of Yamuna were a major reason for displeasure. On the other hand, Arvind Kejriwal kept claiming that the BJP’s central government is creating obstacles in the work of Delhi. Now the public took it as an ‘excuse’ rather than the real reason.

2. Did ‘alcohol-Sheeshmahal’ spoil Arvind Kejriwal’s image?

Arvind Kejriwal has always been seen raising his voice against corruption, but this time his image got tainted due to many things. The alleged money laundering case related to the excise policy was also one of the reasons. BJP had alleged that the AAP government wants to make Delhi a ‘city of alcoholics’ and is ready to spend hundreds of crores to give contracts.

Many Aam Aadmi Party leaders were arrested in the investigation of central agencies. These included Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia, Arvind Kejriwal etc. Due to the arrest, Manish Sisodia was forced to leave the post of Deputy CM and Arvind Kejriwal also left the post of CM. It is also worth noting that the AAP candidates who went to jail have lost this time’s election.

Apart from this, the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ controversy also remained in the headlines, which dented Arvind Kejriwal’s image. The CAG report revealed that between Rs 7.91 crore and Rs 33.66 crore were spent on building the CM residence.

3. Shower of freebies but lack of real development?

In the name of public welfare policies, the Aam Aadmi Party had started free electricity, free water, free bus service for women etc. in Delhi. However, the public claims that there was no significant change in the level of infrastructure development and its maintenance. The people of Delhi were angry with the poor condition of roads and sewers. The upper and middle class of Delhi seemed fed up with the poor basic facilities.

Even though AAP may have received a large number of votes in 2015 and 2020 due to these freebies, this time the public also paid attention to the unfulfilled promises. For example, the promise of piped water connection made in 2015 has not been fulfilled yet. Also, making Delhi a full state has also not been fulfilled. Apart from this, 20 lakh jobs were also promised in the employment budget.

4. Was the rebellion of big leaders of AAP also the reason?

Senior leaders of Aam Aadmi Party leaving the party is also being considered a big loss for it. Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, Mayank Gandhi and Kumar Vishwas’ disagreement with Arvind Kejriwal and his alleged ‘arbitrary’ attitude can also be seen as a loss. At the same time, the resignation of big leaders like Kailash Gehlot while being a minister also seemed to harm the party.

5. AAP’s victory in MCD, benefit or loss?

Aam Aadmi Party had a one-sided victory in the MCD elections held in the year 2022. However, this victory caused more harm to AAP than benefit. AAP had promised world-class roads and a clean city in Delhi, but AAP did not live up to both the promises. Arvind Kejriwal kept alleging that BJP was not allowing work to be done in Delhi through the Lieutenant Governor. However, this time the voters directly questioned the MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party and held them responsible.

6. Was there a loss due to leaving Congress?

Aam Aadmi Party and Congress had formed an alliance in the Delhi Lok Sabha elections, but soon after this, AAP and Congress came face to face in the same Delhi. It is believed that the wrong message was sent to the public about unity between political parties. On the other hand, BJP, while handling this, sent a message of unity to the public by giving seats to Nitish Kumar’s JDU and Chirag Paswan LJP (Ram Vilas) in the Delhi elections itself.
