Delhi Excise Policy Extension: Rekha Gupta government of Delhi has decided to extend the current excise policy till next year. The current excise policy was to end on 30 June 2025. In such a situation, the government has announced to extend it for the next nine months. According to the order, the current excise policy will continue from July 1 to March 31, 2026. Under the current policy, only government liquor shops will remain open in the city for the next nine months.

The BJP-led Rekha Gupta government of Delhi was working on making new rules for the new excise policy, but now the Delhi government has decided to extend the current policy for the next 9 months.

Instructions to prepare a draft proposal for the new excise policy

Wholesale licenses will be given on the basis of the terms of the existing policy and payment of proportionate license fee. The order states that apart from this, the terms of all licenses that are renewed every year will also continue for the excise year 2025-26. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has recently directed officials to prepare a draft proposal for the new excise policy by June 30.

The high-level committee will study the policies of other states

Officials said the government aims to bring a new policy that ensures the supply of quality liquor with transparency and generates revenue for it. A high-level committee headed by Chief Secretary Dharmendra Kumar is preparing a draft of the new policy by studying the policies of other states. A notice issued by the Excise Commissioner said that the terms and conditions for the license year 2025-26 are the same as those for the license year 2022-23.

The notice said that there has been no change in the price structure, label, source and warehouse etc. in the case of existing licenses or registered brands active as on June 30. It said that registered brands can be registered for the year 2025-26 on the same terms and conditions as for the licensing year 2024-25.
